Is R840 must have 2 GPU cards for acceleration computing
Hello, I’ve found a description of GPUs installation from R840 manual. In GPU page, it says “Ensure that both the processors are installed”. Is it mean when I try to use this server as a hpc unit with GPU acceleration. I need to prepare 2 gpu cards and install them in both socket? Cannot just install 1 gpu card, is it right? Thanks for your reading, any information will be helpful.

Elvish2019,
It is referring to the CPU Processors, not the GPUs. The R840 supports up to 2 GPU's, but don't require there to be 2, you can have just a single installed.
Hope this helps.

Dear Chris,
Thanks for replying.
But here I still have a problem.
Here is my infrastructure about CPU and GPU:
CPU: 4x 18 cores CPU (Total cores= 72 cores)
GPU: 1x NVIDIA P100
Using ANSYS Mechanical as a testing application for HPC.
And comes some crash problem, here is the testing profile:
18 cores (0-17) + GPU: Pass
36 cores (0-35) + GPU: Pass
54 cores (0-53) + GPU: Crash or Error: processor 2 and 3 cannot call CUDA library
72 cores (0-71) + GPU: Crash or Error: processor 2 and 3 cannot call CUDA library
It seems like when I cross to 3rd processor it will comes out an error about calling CUDA library, is pretty wired because I can work normally under 2x processors.
Another thing is I can work same application on other Branch server (2 processors, 64 cores + 1x GPU) normally without any error.
So I'm afraid is there any settings or driver I have missed?
Have you ever met anything familiar with?
Your Sincerely,
Elvis
