Linux tool for automating BIOS Settings
Hi ...
Hi!
I have Dell Power Edge 1U servers: R240, R340, R440.
Does anyone know an utility that can run in Linux environment to automate the BIOS settings in each server.

Does anyone know an utility that can run in Linux environment to automate the BIOS settings in each server.
Example; in a R240 set the BIOS settings, then, save the settings in a file. Use the file to set the other R240 servers.

Hello,
Normally, I'd recommend OpenManage Essentials, but that is Windows only. OpenManage Enterprise would be a viable option for you, it's an appliance that would interact with the iDRACs to make BIOS setting changes. If you rule that out though, the only other thing I can think of is that you could write a RACADM script to make the changes.
I think OpenManage Enterprise would be the best option, though, since out-of-band management is what it is geared for.

Thanks for your reply..
RACADM seems to be fitting in this scenario.
Is there a ftp site that I can download RACADM.
Thank you again for your great help.

RACADM is part of OpenManage Server Administrator, installing OMSA would get it for you. You can also use the download "Dell EMC iDRAC Tools for Linux" package.
OMSA: https://www.dell.com/support/home/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=4n5vt
iDRAC Tools: https://www.dell.com/support/home/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=g3ndf
Depending on the version of Linux you have, there may be some tweaks to get the installer to run, like modifying the /etc/redhat-release file, or whatever the equivalent would be in your directory (gentoo-release, os-release, lsb-release, *-release)

I have Debian, (os-release).
What do I need to tweak in that file.
Thanks.

OpenManage on Debian is in a sort of odd place, in that it isn't officially supported, but that we have some resources available to you.
https://linux.dell.com/repo/community/openmanage/
That link will take you to a page that will help you set up a repo to pull OMSA from. It has a full set of instructions, on the offhand chance that you need help with it.
