Looking for a guide for converting a VRTX Tower model to Rack model

Hello,

I am looking for a detailed guide for the conversion of a VRTX tower model to the rack model.

we have the conversion kit, but there is no guide for the conversion. I found something in the owners manual but this is not really a detailed description.

Has someone here done the conversion or can provide me a manual?

Best regards

Robert.KI,

The steps needed are listed below, or you can also find them here

You require the following items to convert your VRTX from tower to rack mode:

  • Cartridge packages (consisting of two cartridges, screws and L-Key)
  • #1 and #2 Phillips screwdrivers
  • T6, T8, T10, T15, and T20 Torx drivers
  • Wrist grounding strap

  1. If installed, remove the front bezel.
  2. Turn off the server modules using the operating system commands or the Chassis Management Controller (CMC).
  3. Turn off the enclosure, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the enclosure from the electrical outlet and peripherals.
  4. Remove the following:
    1. server modules
    2. hard drives
    3. power supplies

CAUTION: The blower closeout door is spring loaded. To prevent injury, exercise care when placing your hand or fingers inside the blower module bay.
    4. blower modules
    5. blower module bay
  5. To remove the system side cover:
    1. Press the release button on the inside of the chassis wall, to disengage the side cover from the chassis.
    2. Slide the side cover toward the back of the system to disengage the cover hooks from the chassis, and remove the cover away from the chassis.

      1. system side cover
      2. hooks on the system side cover (15)
      3. release button
  6. Rotate the system feet inward and lay the system on its side on a flat, stable surface with the cover release latch side on top.

NOTE: For systems installed with the wheel assembly, ensure that you lay the system on its side on a flat, stable surface with the wheel assembly extending off the edge of the surface.
  7. If installed, remove the wheel assembly and power cable retention bracket.
  8. Remove the system base cover.
  9. Open the system.
  10. Remove the PCIe cage door.
  11. To remove the PCIe cage door cover:
    1. Remove the two screws securing the PCIe cage door cover to the cage door.
    2. Slide the cage door cover out of the cage door.

    2. cooling shroud
    3. cooling-fan assembly

    5. top and bottom mounting ears
  13. To convert the top mounting ear to rack left ear:
    1. Remove the screws securing the ear cover to be replaced by the cartridge, and remove the cover.
    2. Align the tabs on the cartridge with the slots in the ear, and lower the cartridge until firmly seated.

When properly seated, the screw holes on the other end of the cartridge align with the screw holes on the ear.

    3. Attach the two screws to secure the cartridge to the ear.

CAUTION: Take care while installing the cartridge, to prevent the LCD module cable from being pinched or crimped.

Robert,

If you have converted the tower to a rack configuration would you be interested in selling the panels for the tower? I am in need of the left side panel for my home lab/enclosure.

Thank you,

Bill Scott

Hello Bill!

I have to ask my customer if he wants to sell them. Were are you located? If in the US it might be cheaper to get them there. I'm here in Germany and I do not know how much is the shipping for a parcel tu US

Robert,

I am located in the USA, but with the unavailability of these panels I would appreciate if you inquire with your customer to see if they are interested in selling and for how much.

Thank you,

Bill Scott

Did you ever hear back from Ryan VanBeek? He was responsive for a couple of days, said he found the parts and would send pics, then the trail went cold...?
