M620 blade - NIC partitioning - problem with first port on ESXi

I'm installing ESXi on M620 blades, with 2 physical NIC's being partitioned to 4 virtual NIC's each for a total of 8 NIC's.  ESXi is binding the first 2 NIC's to management.  When trying to ping the management interface only 5-10% of the packets reply.  After unbinding the first NIC, and leaving only the 2nd NIC for management, there were no problems with packet loss.  I then tried binding random NIC's from 2-8 and no issues with any of them.  The only problem is when using the first NIC, either by itself, or with another set of ports; running persistent pings will drop many packets.  This issue has been reproducible on multiple M620 blades.  Is there anything special about the first NIC port when you using partitioning?

Hi,

What version of ESXi are you using? Which NIC model is installed? What version are the system BIOS, iDRAC, CMC firmware and NIC firmware?

We can reproduce this issue on ESXi 5.1, 5.5 U1 and 5.5 U2 (and also on some M710HD blades).

For the particular M620 I'm looking at now:

CMC: 4.50

BIOS: 2.4.3

DRAC: 1.45.45

Broadcom BCM57810: 7.6.15

NIC is configured as NPAR, Ethernet only, 0-100 weight on all 4 partitions (default settings).

Are they all on the same switch or switch model? Try updating the NIC firmware, this document seems to indicate a newer firmware is needed.
