Memory configurations on PE 1950 with one CPU

Hi there: I am pretty new to Xeon servers as we have been using opteron systems mostly . In an opteron setup each CPU has its own dedicated bank of memory, so if you only have one opteron CPU you can only use half of the memory banks available. Is this the same case with the memory banks in the PE 1950? Reason I ask is that we only have one Xeon 5060 in the Dell. If I fully populate the memory slots will all the memory be used by the one CPU? Or do I need 2 CPUs in the 1950 to make full use of the 8 memory slots. Thanks

The only limitation to your memory configuration would be the type of Operating System you are installing on the server.  Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard x32 only supports up to 4gb of memory.  The 64-bit versions of the Win2003 OSs support up to 2TB theoretically.

Other than that, if your running an enterprise level OS that supports over 4gb, then you can install up to 32gb in this server.  I.E. 8x4gb DIMMS.  Remember the memory must be populated in pairs as the memory is Fully Buffered.

I get that, but what i am wondering is whether I can populate all 8 of the memory slots with just 1 CPU installed, or do i need 2 cpus installed to have all 8 memory slots populated.
