Hello, it's just that normally Windows version files are used when updating in idrac.

That is just the default that page was showing, if you scroll down the page you will see the .bin version (Network_Firmware_8FKR1_LN64_22.31.13.70.BIN)

Yes Chris I can understand. So the conclusion is that the Linux Firmware File Format is for Linux VMs support and Windows Firmware File Format is for Windows VMs support hosted on ESXi machine at Dell PowerEdge R640.

Whatever VMs are hosted on ESXi machine at Dell PowerEdge R640, we will only use those File Format Firmware's. Right ?

Hi Chris

Why its showing windows File Format ? Does it mean that its due to windows VMs are hosted (Dell PowerEdge R640) on ESXi ? if my understanding is correct then for Linux VMs we will require Linux File Format ?

You would need to run it on the host, not the VM, as the VM doesn't see the actual NIC just the virtual.

Which File I need to run on host ?

Hello you can use the Windows version and update in idrac, you do not need to do it with Esxi ( Host OS).

@DELL-Young E Any specific reason to use Windows version ? why not Linux version ? just for my information

@DELL-Young E Thanks for clarification. Means its not must to use specific Windows or Linux version file format. Main goal is to upload / install the firmware on hardware and in our case its Broadcom Network Card Adapter.

Do you have any quick snapshot of iDRAC option/tab where to upload the firmware file on Dell PowerEdge R640 machine ?
