PE 1950 - PERC 5/i move to Gen3 motherboard?

Can I move PERC 5/i and PERC 5/e RAID controllers and drives from a generation 2 Power Edge 1950 board to a generation 3 system that currently has a PERC 6/i controllers and expect it to work and be stable (RHEL 5)?

I have an E1215 1.8V PWRGD error on the old system causing spontaneous reboots. The system is more stable with no load but fails hourly in production environment. I've swapped power supplies and am now looking to change main board.

The old system has a 2nd generation board, with 2 PERC 5i controllers (rear attached to external powervault M1000). I picked up a couple used systems but they have generation 3 boards with PERC 6/i controllers. I ordered a gen 2 board to be safe, but if I would prefer the faster processors on the gen 3 board (Xeon 5140 vs E5410).

Any insights appreciated!

Better yet, you can move just the drives to the PERC 6 (unless you plan on moving everything back to the old machine once parts are replaced) rather than keeping the old PERC 5. PERC 5 VD's can be migrated to a PERC 6.

That's an option but the quality of the gen 3 server is unknown, and once I go to 6 I can't go back to 5 if I hav e to.Also the gen 3 server only has the internal card. I need the PERC 5/e also so I would have a mix of PERC 5/e and  PERC 6/i. Not sure how smoothly the RAID config would go. On the gen 2 sever both 5's are configured form one screen.

PERC 5 and PERC 6 use the same configuration utility.
