PE2650: How do I clear the IPMI Error Log?

When I run diagnostics on one of our PowerEdge 2650 servers, three old (really old) error messages are displayed when diagnostics runs the "IPMI System Event Log Check." I'm wondering how I may delete these three unneeded messages. They're just so annoying.

Thanks.

Here's the latest IPMI diagnostics (Notice that the three error entries are from 2004):

Larry,

If you have server administrator installed you can clear the ESM (hardware) logs.

Dennis,

Thanks for your response.

At this point, the server has no O/S installed. It's up in the air whether it'll be Windows, Linux, or NetWare. I was hoping that there was a utility on the CDs that came with the server or some other tool that would allow me to clear the log.

Larry,

If you have a way to burn an ISO image, I can send you an email with a program to do this.  Just PM me your email address.

You may need to go in through the DRAC to do this.
The BMCCFG utility won't work, I suspect this is the program Dennis is referring to (i could be wrong).

Excellent suggestion! (And a doy! to me.) I was able to clear the annoying messages using the server's DRAC.

Thanks much.

Hi Dennis,

I want to clear the IPMI Error Log of my 1650 server since there are some entries which are more than one year old. Would the iso image you offered Larry as well useful for my 1650? If yes, would it possible to get it from you? I am running SuseLinux on my machines.

The link I have to the attachment for the tool is no longer valid.  If you call into our Linux server queue they should be able to provide this for you.

Dennis, thanks very much for your help. How do I call into our Linux server queue? Do you have a name, email-addr or phone number for me to ask? Thanks Guenther

You can call 1-800-945-3355 ext. 72-69404.  This will get you to an operator who will ask for your service tag, then you you can tell him/her that you need the Linux support group.

I'm only curious to know why all the secrecy surrounding this mysterious tool.

You can use the following utility for much more than clearing the log - download it, create a CD with it, and boot to it.  It will give you a CentOS LiveCD with OpenManage Server Administrator integrated into it:

okay i've got to give this one a shot.  I am having the same problems with not having an OS and needing to clear the logs, so i'm gonna download and burn this.  Will update on success/failure later on today.

E: tried it, and it worked great!  the entire process does take about 10 minutes, which if you're testing dimms that keep failing, it will cost you a lot of time there. One note is that you have to set a password during the startup (before it actually boots into centOS).  don't forget it!  your username should be root, and the password is just whatever you told it.

Thanks!

For anyone else who needs the iso, the image has changed and omsa-51 no longer available.

The location that the current image is stored is: 71

http://linux.dell.com/files/openmanage-contributions/omsa-71-live/

When this one is no longer current go up a level and see what the current one is:
linux.dell.com/.../openmanage-contributions
