PIII processor question for PowerEdge 1300

I've just purchased a bare bones PowerEdge 1300 without RAM, Hard Drives or CPU's, Hard drives I can source but the RAM and CPU's I need a little info on. Whats spec RAM is required? What is the maximum PIII CPU I can fit in each socket?

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated

Thanks

Maximum P3 depends on a lot of factors. If its like the 2300 all cpus up to 1.0GHZ/100mHZ FSB work fine.

Slot1 CPU'S are harder to find.  The cheapest easiest to find would be 333 of 350, 400 mhz pentiumii slot1 cpus.  I got 3 recently on ebay for $12 including shipping.

Dell SECC2 cpu's use a different retaining clip than the OLD SECC ones do.

The newer retaining clip is for DELL CPU's only others will fit into the old or new clip but will not necessarily be held in place.

You need PC100 SDRAM.

Maximum Memory 1GB
Memory Slots 4 (4 banks of 1)

Unbuffered and Registered DIMMs CANNOT be mixed. Populate DIMM sockets in sequential order. Install DIMMs in order of decending capacity if installing different sizes of DIMMs
