POWEREDGE 2900 Win2008 Standard Memory Issue
I have a PE2900 Win2008 Standard edition server, 32 bit that came with 4Gb memory ( 4x1Gb FB). Recently I started having problems with overall server speed and decided to upgrade the memory. I did replaced the old package with 8x4Gb Gb memory, all same speed , manufacturer. After rebooting the server, it did recognized the 32 Gb memory but still running as 4Gb with the 80-85% memory usage. What settings do I need to change for the server.

Hello
I suggest that you review the operating system specifications. I think 2008x86 Standard edition is limited to 4GB of memory.

I looked dell specs and they are a bit confusing for my server...
Up to 48GB (12 FBD DIMM slots): 256MB/512MB/1GB/2GB/4GB Fully
Buffered DIMMs (FBD) in matched pairs, 533MHz or 667MHz
and according to dell manual

what other specs I do need to check? Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition?

What can I do to fix this issue? I read the information you send me and says the Windows Sever 2008 max memory is 4Gb but PAE can extended it. How can I check if my system has PAE?

Do I need to upgrade Microsoft operating system? I need to run on 32 bits. Please advice

All PAE does is trick the OS into thinking it is using more RAM by layering emulation. You need to upgrade the software the requires you to use a 32-bit OS. 32-bit Server operating systems are dead - there will never be another 32-bit Server OS, so you need to make plans to upgrade whatever software is tying you to a 32-bit OS. You can enable PAE, but it isn't always stable and there can be performance issues. Not every application is compatible with it either, and your application will still NOT be able to use more than 4GB of RAM IF it is a 32-bit application … it will be much less if it is a 16-bit application … chances are high that your memory upgrade is a waste of RAM no matter how it is set up and regardless of PAE.
