Play DVD movie (region#1) without Sound or Video from Windows Media Player for Power Edge 400SC

Just bought a new DVD burner (Khypermedia 8X DVD+RW, model KDVRW8X) and burned some movies from my own camcorder (uding Nero Express 6.0). After that, playing the DVD back using Windows Media Player and no sound/video. Then loaded the driver from download url http://www.khypermedia.com/download.htm, http://www.khypermedia.com/download/firmware/W08211SB.zip, same thing happened. The DVD burner can play CD, VCD without any problem. Is this a DVD driver problem, or it is Power Edge video card problem? After running dvdinfo.exe (www.dvdinfo.com), the DVD infomation for the DVD driver was OK: http://members.cox.net/m22/dvd-info.JPG. After running freeware from http://www.dvd-x-player.com/, the error message http://members.cox.net/m22/dvd-error.JPG popped up: "Faield to create overlay surface on the video card." Just sent an email to DELL customer service & wating for their repsonse. Does anyone know what problem this can be?

Does the DVD play in a conventional DVD player?  If not, I suspect this is caused by the DVD format.

The following DVD movies have been tried without luck:
1. Saving Private Ryna from US
2. Juradic Park from US
3. My own DVD movie after using this current DVD burner
4. Artificial Intelligence DVD movie from China

The DVD drive has a warning that it can not decode the movie from other non-US regions.

I would try a DVD playing software, just to rule out any potential hardware issue.   Does your burner come with an OEMed DVD playing software like PowerDVD or WinDVD?

The DVD burner came with Nero Express 6.0 for burning the movie, but not playing the movie. I will tro to get WinDVD software to give it a try next time. Also I tried the M.G.I. SoftMax and it did not work. If I still have the problem, I might need to re-install Windows XP on the PowerEdge SC400.

Don't you need a DVD playback software installed in order to play DVD?   Windows XP doesn't come with DVD codecs, does it?

Once the codec is installed, you can play the DVD with Windows Media Player.  But the Media Player itself would not have come with a dvd playback codec.

You can download a free trial version of windvd from the company's web site.
