Power Edge 1600sc onboard network ethernet device?

Hi all,

How does one work out what the onboard network device is on my Poweredge server?

As somehow it has lost it's drivers and I am trying to reinstall them, but from drivers cd, non seem to be accepted,

I stupidly uninstall the device, so it is not even showing on control panel and scan for new hardware doesn't even show it, any suggestions?

Thanks

Phil

If you right-click on the device and go to Properties, Details tab, then choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown.  You can look up VENdor ID and DEVice ID and look it up on someplace like PCIDatabase.com.  But to skip that step ... the 1600SC has an Intel PRO 1000MT NIC.  Below is the driver that you should use ... extract it on the server, then Update Driver in Device Manager, pointing it to the Intel driver (INF) folder.  (BTW ... never do this with a Broadcom driver :))

Hi The Flash ( cool name)

Thanks for this.

Another question, I by acciident uninstalled device instead of driver, and sbs 2003 is not finding it when I do a scan for new hardware, that is one of reasons I couldn't work out what name of device was,

Any suggestion on how I can get it to show up again, as being a onboard device, of course I cannot unplug it manually and put it back in.

Thanks

Phil

"Uninstall" or "disable"?  The uninstall option in Device Manager should uninstall the driver - I think Windows can only disable a device to hide it.

If the New Hardware Found wizard doesn't launch after a reboot, you might try booting up with NIC disabled in BIOS, then again with it enabled (?).  The NIC should still be seen in Device Manager (no?) ... maybe under Other Devices/Unknown.
