Power Edge T 430 Help With Storage Raid Configuration

Hello,

I need some help please.

I have a Power Edge T 430 server. I am running out of space on C drive. I have 2 partitions which is C and D. What is the safest way to extend the C drive by taking some from D drive partition?  I know that i cannot do this from Windows but is there a software that does this safely?

How do i check the current raid configuration?

If adding another hard drive the safest way how do i do this so the C drive has more space.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

it depends by the Windows Server version, but you can use diskpart to reduce/expand partitions https://dell.to/2TWoFM7

Or you can use third party app to do this as well.

For the raid configuration, you can check it from Open Manage Server Administrator, or directly in the PERC bios restarting the server.

If you add another physical drive, you can increase a RAID5 volume from Open Manage Server Administrator using the reconstruct function, and then expand the partition at the software level.

Thanks

Hello thanks, manage to check it using iDrac. It is on Raid 5. The server is on Windows 2012 R2.

Hi,

May i know what third party application i could use to do this? currently the D partition has data, and i do not have any unallocated space. The D partition has a lot of space. Some article i read said windows disk management cannot do this as if i shrink D partition the unallocated space will not be behind C partition and that disk management will only work if i already have the unallocated space in the first place.
