PowerEdge 1900 support Intel E5440 CPU?
Curious if the PowerEdge 1900 supports the E5xxx series of CPUs. I see they come with the E53xx series CPUs. I did some looking and here are the specs on the E5440:
sSpec Number: SLANS
CPU Speed:2.83 GHz
Bus Speed: 1333 MHz
Bus/Core Ratio: 8.5
L2 Cache Size: 12 MB
L2 Cache Speed: 2.83 GHz
Package Type: LGA771
Manufacturing Technology: 45 nm
Core Stepping: C0
VID Voltage Range: 0.95V - 1.225V
And the E5335:
sSpec Number: SLAEK
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
Bus Speed: 1333 MHz
Bus/Core Ratio: 6
L2 Cache Size: 8 MB
L2 Cache Speed: 2 GHz
Package Type: LGA771
Manufacturing Technology: 65 nm
Core Stepping: G0
VID Voltage Range: 1.187V-1.325V
The package type is the same which means it will at least fit! The bus speed is the same which says to me the board should see the processor correctly. Just not sure about the differences in core stepping and voltage.
Anyone put one of these CPUs in a 1900?
Thanks for any input.
[edit] Changed E3xxx to E53xx for processors 1900 comes with stock.

The PE1900 supports dual Xeon 5000 series processors (see the "Getting started guide" from here. So no Xeon 3000-series support in the 1900.
As for the 5440, if I'm not mistaken you'd need a 1900-III (this added support for the 45nm processors). The older 1900's only support the 5100 and 5300 Xeon processors.

Unless I am mistaken, I don't see a 1900-III. I see a 1950-III and the 1950-III come with E52xx and E54xx processors. In looking on Intel's site, the E52xx are 1066Mhz FSB and the E54xx are 1333Mhz FSB. Both are 45nm processors.
Is there any information on the motherboard used in the 1900?
The reason I am going through this is we have 2 2950s that have 2x E5440 processors in them and they are grossly underused. Another department ordered a 1900 (not here yet) and got a single the E5110 processor. That 1900 is going to be a branch office server with a lot running on it. Wanted to move some assets around if I could.

There is a 1950-III. It looks like it supports the 45nm chips.
What is interesting is that I ran across this vendor. I wonder if they are upgrading the chips on older machines to make them more sellable. I'll email and verify they have E54xx Xeons in there. I guess they tried it!

It seems you're right. For the other 9th generation servers only the "III" servers support the 5400 series Xeon.
Looking at dell.com and building a new 1900, they don't offer any 5400 series Xeons. So this system probably just doesn't support the 45nm processors at all (Xeon 5200 and 5400).
