PowerEdge 2800 NIC

I have literally installed all of the NIC Components and none of them recognize the original NIC which is installed ...

How do I get the drivers for the original NIC if they are not in the set of drivers with the associated service tag of my machine.

I think dell USED TO provide a very descriptive product sheet as originally shipped - but the thing now only lists a portion of the descriptions so you cant read it....

very frustrating, dell....

Sales sheets haven't changed much in many years that I have noticed.

Don't use your Service Tag - that service is pretty hit/miss right now.

Which OS are you trying to load drivers for?!

For 2003x64, you should use this driver:

ftp.dell.com/.../NIC_DRVR_WIN_R94800.EXE

However, if you plan to run 2008R2, the drivers are native/built-in, so I would skip 2003 and go directly to 2008R2, which the 2800/2850 runs beautifully (minus Hyper-V, and you will need 2008x64 video drivers).

then something else is wrong because it did not install (already on 2k8).  When I try the exe...I get a message saying the os is beyond the os supported by the package

Yes, that driver is for 2003.

Did you do an upgrade from 2003 to 2008R2?  I would suggest a clean install directly to 2008R2.

I've installed 2008R2 on dozens of these machines ... if the NIC drivers don't install with 2008R2, then something is wrong.  They only things needed for an install of 2008R2 on a 2800/2850 is the RAID driver during install and the 2008x64 video driver post install for decent resolutions (and OMSA for DRAC drivers).

Do they show in Device Manager as missing drivers? or do they not show in Device Manager at all?

You can install 2008R2 via USB  on this machine ... no DVD drive required:

jesscoburn.com/.../installing-windows-2008-via-usb-thumbdrive

Power off, insert USB, power on, boot to BIOS Setup (F2), put USB at the top of the boot sequence (make sure it is also check-marked/enabled).  No RAID, no big deal ... you just won't need to worry about loading the drivers during the install.

oh - here comes the comedy of errors.....

this server has no perc raid controller - I'm sad to say.....its besides the point.

there is no dvd player so I had to install 2003 because its the only os I had cd's for.  then when I did the upgrade, my thought was exactly what you suggested - (2008 will fix it!!) but to no avail...

I was just looking for a cheap old machine to do some sql development....
