PowerEdge 350 and RAM troubles

I have a PowerEdge 350 which needs a RAM upgrade. I bought three 256 MB sticks of Micron MT18LSDT3272G-10E, but the system does not POST and gives 7 short beeps. It looks like I need RAM that is 16 meg x 8 rather than 32 meg x 4.

I have flashed the BIOS to A09 to no avail.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get this RAM to work?

Additionally, does anyone have an opinion on running non-ECC RAM in this server?

Thanks,

Mr. Tribble -

PowerEdge 350s only take P3s. Additionally, the machine currently boots with 3 sticks of stock ECC. If you have advice about 32x4 vs. 16x8, or about ECC vs. non-ECC, I'm all ears.

What did Crucial recommend for your system? You did use the system picker to get the correct kind of RAM, right? Assuming you did, then as I recall 7 beeps means that either the CPU isn't mounted correctly, or the mainboard's fried. :(

My guess would be, if the system is a P4, it needs DRAM to be added in groups of 2. See if the box will post with just 2 sticks of RAM in.

Just bought some 128MB modules direct from Dell for a 350 - haven't installed them yet but they are: 128MB, Synch, 133MHz, CL3, ECC and look like 16x8
