Rapita,

What I would suggest is taking the server to a Minimum to Post configuration. Disconnect all external connections, from there open the server and remove everything but the following;

  • System board
  • Expansion riser
  • CPU1 with heat sink (minimum for troubleshooting)
  • One memory DIMM in DIMM 0 slot
  • Control panel with cable
  • 1 PSU, and PSU-to-PDB connector board for 8 or 12 configs.

After that then reseat the listed devices to confirm good connections, then power up and see if the server completes POST. If it does then start adding the removed devices back individually to see what device is causing the issue. If the server doesn't POST then there is an issue with one of the listed devices.

Let me know what you see.

Hi Chris,

I have removed the following elements:

- 1 of 2 PSUs,

- 2 DIMMs from 3,

- All four HDs

- 1 network card attached to the riser, and

- no USB device attached

So, what is left is:

- system board,

- 1 CPU (is a one CPU server),

- 1 PSU,

- 1 2GB DIMM in slot 1 (they are numbered 3, 2, 1, 4, from a fron view) ,

- riser with HD card (sorry I don't recall which one exactly),

- backplane for HDs,

- display connected through VGA connector.

Once the server is plugged, it makes no difference. Once "Configuring memory ..." message is shown, it goes to the screen showing DELL blue logo, progress bar stalled at 20-25%, and the "leds" on front showing numbers from 1 to 4 blink until numbers 2,3 and 4 get fixed. Nothing more happens, even if you let it go for more than 10 minutes.

Thanks for your time Chris.

Appreciate.

Angel
