After a couple of restarts it ended up working. Probably as you mention the issue was that the media was connected after starting the lifecycle controller.
Did you connected the virtual media after entering lifecycle controller or it was connected before launching lifecycle controller? Can you reboot the server with virtual media connected and check whether lifecycle controller can see the media. If it is still not working can you check whether you can boot the server to virtual media by pressing F11 during boot and selecting virtual CD drive.
