PowerEdge R820 memory configuration - Need some help

Hi,

I have a PowerEdge R820, 4 CPU's with 196MB of memory and it's populated with all 8GB DIMM's in:

A1-A6

B1-B6

C1-C6

D1-D6

There are 24slots available.

I have come by 8 x 16GB DIMM's and I'd like to put 2 Per CPU in.

Can I just populate them into A7/A8, B7/B8 etc? I read the if you mix 16GB and 8GB, the 16GB needs to be the first DIMM's.

Not even sure the mix is supported so any help is gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Hello mikeprag,

The R820 does support Flexible Memory Configuration.

You should be able to put the largest DIMMs in the 1 and 2 slot for each processor .

I'd recommend looing over the Memory guidelines to see you match up.

Owner manual : https://dell.to/3x8EKiH

System Memory Page 43-51

Memory modules of different sizes can be mixed provided that other memory population rules are followed (for example, 2 GB and 4 GB memory modules can be mixed).

UDIMMs, RDIMMs, and LRDIMMs must not be mixed
