PowerEdge SC1425-how to apply BIOS update without a floppy?
PowerEdge SC1425-how to apply BIOS update without a floppy? All I can find is the floppy method. Can't I just run it from the hard drive somehow?
Did not see any instructions except how to create a floppy.
Did not see any instructions except how to create a floppy.
Also, I am upgrading from SBS 2003 to SBS 2003 SP1 and it wants me to upgrade to the latest BIOS. Is this necessary?
Many thanks,

Found the answer: there is a windows based exe that we can run. I don't have the name handy but it is on the page with the floppy based update. Worked great, upgraded me from A01 to A02 and everything seems to be running properly.
Could DELL make this a little bit clearer? Was not obvious to me that I should run this exe if I did not have a floppy.
thanks,

You'd make the boot floppy (on another machine obviously), then use an appropriate application to make a bootable CD, and tell it to use the floppy as the boot image for that CD.

With later versions of the server there are WINDOWS based Bios updates.
However I don't know if they work without open manage software and the SC series servers dont have open manage.
The diskette Image is here.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but simply running the Windows-based exe did the trick. It was not really clear that this was an option, but it worked flawlessly.

WINDOWS NT does not work for the Windows Bios updates.
My techs tell me its because they use WBEM OR WMI to do the update and NT doesnt have WMI.
