PowerEdge T310 Memory Upgrade Question

Hello, I have a Dell T310 on which I would like to do a memory upgrade.  This T310 has the Xeon x3450 processor.  It also came with 2 x 2GB of UDIMM which I will be removing entirely in order to start from scratch.  If I go to the Dell T310 configuration web page and spec an x3450 CPU, it shows me that among the various memory options is one of 24GB, configured as six by 4GB RDIMMs (dual ranked) which will run at 800MHz.   I have been unable to get the Dell web site and any memory configuration tool or system upgrade tool thereon to find any 4GB dual ranked RDIMM whatsoever.    So, looking around among the third party options I find that Axiom, for example, has a 4GB, ECC, dual rank, registered RDIMM (1333MHz) – Axiom P/N  AX31333R9V/4G.  Axiom indicates that these will clock down to 800MHz if required by the memory controller.  Looking at the specs for this module I don’t see anything that would conflict with the specs sited for the T310, though this module is not specifically advertised as being T310 compatible.  Axiom does list modules that are T310 compatible but these are not among them – nor are any dual ranked 4GB modules.   From reading a few threads out there, it appears that getting the memory right on these T310’s can be an aggravation.   In light of this, I’m specifically wondering;   - Have other folks out there had success with RDIMMs that seem to meet the specs, but are not specifically listed as T310 compatible?   - Has someone out there got the six by 4GB dual ranked memory configuration working successfully with third party modules?   - Is there any reason to think that there are various x3450 motherboard revisions that have been released, some of which may support the six by 4GB dual ranked configuration and some of which may not? Here is Crucial's certified memory for the T310.

Select the 3-piece kit option and 12GB (uncheck the rest) and you'll be presented dual and quad ranked RDIMMs as options.

Crucial has a good reputation and if you use that link to purchase the memory, they'll guarantee it to be compatible with the T310. They also has decent prices usually.

Thank you for the reply. I believe I have found a solution -I emailed Axiom late yesterday and had a reply overnight indicating that their part number A2626083-AX (dual ranked) is compatible with the PowerEdge T310. So I’ve ordered six of these and will have them later this week to try out.

I might have gone with Crucial but at the time I was looking I either couldn’t find or didn’t notice their dual ranked 4GB modules. Also, some of their proposed configurations didn’t seem to line up with what I understood to be supported T310 configurations on the Dell web site – which caused me to back off a bit. For example, I noticed on the link you provided that they are showing 12GB kits comprised of three by 4GB quad ranked modules. This would require either three in one channel or two in one channel and one in the other. My understanding (which could be wrong) of the info on the Dell web site would indicate that this is an unsupported configuration. I believe you can only have two (not one, not three) quad ranked modules per channel.

Anyhow, this whole exercise has taken far more time than I care to admit, but hopefully I will soon have a working 24GB solution.
