Poweredge 1800 RAM Upgrade error. Please Help

I have a Dell Poweredge 1800 with two 256mb RAM drives. I needed an upgrade so I added two 2gb drives. These were tested on another identical server and worked fine.

When both are installed in my machine I received an error during the boot "Memory write/read failure at 1C2A5FE4, read 2AC12AC5 expecting 2AC52AC5. Decreasing available memory."

I have tried reseating them all, swapping them around and even one at a time and the max memory that it will show is 1gb. What can I do?

Is the BIOS out of date?  Dust or hair in the slots?  Does any memory (original) work ok? What are the memory specs?

You can update it from the OS ... what OS is running on it?

Or you can update it outside of the OS using Dell's update utility.

My BIOS is version A05 from 2005. How would I go about updating it? (Please forgive my ignorance)

Ok, I just updated my BIOS. That didn't do the trick. The original memory works but the new memory does not.

I would try clearing the NVRAM  using the jumpers on the motherboard.

I cleared the NVRAM and now it is saying "Memory address line failure." Any ideas? I appreciate your time helping me through this.

Well, I'm kind of out of ideas:

- You said the original memory works, so the slots are working fine (probably).

- You said the memory works in an identical server, so the memory itself should be fine.

Is the other server that it does work in EXACTLY identical?

Seems like I saw an issue like this once were the system could only see so much of inserted DIMM's, but I can't remember the details.
