Poweredge 1950 upgrade
Hi everyone!
So someone just gave me a Dell Poweredge 1950. To say it's a bit old is a minor understatement, socket 771 tech here, with DDR2 memory! I like the case so I was wondering if someone had any suggestions for a motherboard upgrade that will fit nicely into the existing 1U case without to many modifications. I found the 3rd gen motherboards for this system, but their socket 771 also.
Thanks!
zog

The motherboard layout is probably proprietary, I doubt you'll be able to drop a new one in with only minor alterations - power connectors, control panel, etc. I understand the potential intrinsic value of getting it to work, but otherwise it doesn't hardly sound worth the effort to me. Take the cost of whatever you were going to throw at this to get it working and buy a newer used server. You might be able to sell that one for $20-30 to use towards it too ... or there is plenty that server can still do (just maybe not what you want it to do - what is your goal with it?).
