Some vendors purchase Dell hardware and configure to their needs - Symantec, Google, etc. - may purchase non-labeled (white-box) Dell hardware, then create their own appliance, so they don't have to go to the expense of building their own servers. These machines carry no support from Dell - in some cases, they may even have custom hardware for which Dell would have no drivers either. These machines often have custom firmware as well to meet the needs of the appliance it was purchased to become.

You may be able to force-flash the firmware, but you risk bricking it in that case.

If you purchased this to put into production for business, I would recommend you return it and purchase a legitimately-Dell model. Otherwise, you may need to try to use it as it is - no firmware updates, no OpenManage support, possibly needing third-party or "compatible" drivers for devices.

Well that is madness. I have contacted the supplier. It seems to be made for EMC.

As shown here: en.community.dell.com/.../19605760

If I update to OEM Ready R710 BIOS 6.3.0 downloads.dell.com/.../oth-r710.html

Then update everything else Backplane, Idrac etc.

Then update the bios again to the non-OEM one 6.4.0 (Default one) but I will need to force it.

How do I force it through CMD?

I'm not sure of the command to force ... I don't usually use hardware that way :) Search the forums ... I know it has been discussed here before.

Sellers are often vague about the white-box status, because they are harder to sell if they have been OEM-customized.

No worries, I have been able to /Forcetype flash it. It looks like it wasn't sold as an OEMR version.

Someone flashed it, in its day life. Not too sure why.

Anyway all back to its former glory cheers.
