Poweredge t610 memory config

Hi,

I have a t610, with 8x4gb DIMM populated in slots A1,2,3,4 and B1,2,3,4

this comes up as unsupported memory configuration, or words to that effect. What slots should this be in to work correctly, or what do I need to do achieve 32gb RAM in a supported configuration?

many thanks

The memory matrix for the T610 doesn't list a configuration for 32GB in Optimizer mode, only Mirrored or Advanced ECC. There are 36GB configurations, however. This would use 6 DIMMs per side, combining 4GB and 2GB DIMMs. My recommendation would be to switch to the 36GB in Optimizer mode, because Advanced ECC and Mirrored modes will have some of the capacity put to use outside the OS' reach. If you want to go this route, it would be A1-3 and B1-3 with 4GB DIMMs, and 2GB DIMMs in A4-6 and B4-6.

This is from another server, but the information still applies.

Advanced ECC mode: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/poweredge-r720/720720xdom-v3/advanced-ecc-lockstep?guid=guid-984f2b7a-cdb4-48aa-8eea-9fb6eaf2f789&lang=en-us

Optimized mode: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/19/idrac7-8-lifecycle-controller-v2.30.30.30/720720xdom-v3/memory-optimized-independent-channel-mode?guid=guid-4e0d57eb-0369-4d2f-9b34-9cf1ce1058b5&lang=en-us

Basically, optimized is set up to allow for all the memory to get passed through to the OS. Advanced ECC is there to provide additional protection of DRAM chip failure.

thanks for the reply. what are the advantages for optimiser over advanced ecc? seems silly that i have to remove 2x4gb and replace with 6x2gb too get this to operate properly! thanks
