Problems installing Firmware update R149666.exe on 2950 with WS03 x64.

I have just received an order for 10 Dell PowerEdge 2950 servers. I've unboxed one, installed  WS03 X64 Standard, then downloaded and run Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Version 5.2.0. It tells me the Storage Controller has an out-of-date driver and Firmware. I downloaded the firmware R149666.EXE which is supposedly the latest firmware for the PERC 5/i.  I run that and it extracts to a directory on the hard drive.  I then run update.bat which is one of the files in the package. I then get several errors such as, "The program or geature "\??\C:\dell\Drivers\R149666\MegaFL.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows.  Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available".

So is there a 64-bit version of the install program available?  This is firmware which should be OS independant although obviously the install program needs to be OS specific.  If no such version exists, what are my options for upgrading the firmware? I don't have floppy drives on these servers Without the upgrade, OpenManage cannot manage  the storage on the server and I have an exposure regarding hardware problems with the storage.

Try the Windows update package which is an executable that you run located here:

Dell PERC 5/i Integrated <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Also, you could also download the .ISO file. It will updated everything at once for you and only needs 1 reboot. It is located here:

Dell CD ISO - PowerEdge Updates

Once burned to a CD as an image, insert the CD into the server with it in the OS. It will auto start and walk you through like a Window's wizard; click, click, click. When its done it will ask for the server to be rebooted. The CD works with several PE systems:

I am having this same issue. However, the link in this thread is to an old version. How can I find the latest version?

Support.dell.com, Drivers and Downloads, enter your service tag or choose your model, select  your OS, and under SAS RAID Controller you will find the firmware updates for the PERC 5/i.

Don't use the Download links on this page, click on:

  • PERC 5/i Integrated (under Dell - Driver), then select Update Package for Microsoft Windows.
  • PERC 5/i Integrated (under Dell - Firmware), then select Update Package for Microsoft Windows.

Run the driver update first, skip the reboot when prompted, update the firmware, then reboot as prompted.

Just as you should update the PERC driver before the firmware, you should also update the BIOS and ESM/BMC before updating the PERC.
