R320 processor upgrade
We bought an R320 with minimal processor punch in Nov 2015 and looking to either add to or replace the current E5-1403 processor on it.
I called in to get a recommendation from Dell, they told me that the R320 processor cant be upgraded, I argued briefly stating that their documentation lists all the supported processors. Long story, short, I hung up as the dude didn't have a clue and just said he talked to his supervisor.
I thought we could save a couple of dollars with a processor swap instead of buying a new system.
Any thoughts?

I don’t have a low-end R320 to look at, but that can't be true. The following site even sells after-market CPU upgrades for the R320:
http://www.xbyte.com/Dell-PowerEdge-R320-CPUs.aspx
Stick to the list of supported processors though.

as noted....I'm just trying to throw a couple hundred dollars at a machine rather than thousand+.
Which processors are readily accessible to upgrade to?

Did you look at the link? XByte shows the best compatible CPU is the Xeon E5-2470. Dell's Technical Guide for the R320 shows the same:
http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/Documents/dell-poweredge-r320-technical-guide.pdf
Assuming you meant the E5-2403 (since there is no 1403), the 2470 would be a decent upgrade.
