R410 memory upgrade: DIMMS should match in size and geometry

Hello.

We are trying to add additional 8G ram to our R410 server.

Original configuration was 4x2G.

Howewer after installation of 2 additional 4G modules we are receiveing following message:

"Unsupported memory configuration. DIMM mismatch across slots detected
The following DIMMS should match in size and geometry: DIM A1, A2 & A3
The following DIMMS should match in size and geometry: DIM B1, B2 & B3"

Currently bank 0 has 2,2,4 modules and bank 1: 2,2,4.

Can you advice the correct configuration for memory upgrade?

I have looked into HOM, but still don't understand (

Thank you.

Hello clayrabbit

The R410 has a very odd memory configuration. It is tri-channel and dual bank, but the second bank is only a single DIMM slot. With mismatched banks it makes everything confusing. Slots 1-3 are a bank and you cannot mix memory within a bank. Slot 4 is a bank by itself. We don't have configuration layouts for mixed memory configurations, but according to the layout of the memory you should be able to populate the 4GB DIMMs in slot 4.

1,2=2GB DIMMs
4=4GB DIMMs

Let me know if that works

Thanks

Thank's for the advice.

Now its showing memory configuration is "not optimal" but it does not say "not supported".

Hope it will be fine.

I want to do a similar upgrade & want to know if you need to always press F1 in order to continue past the "not optimal" message? It would be a pain if you cannot reboot seamlessly

It appears that you do have to always press F1 to get the machine to boot. I am considering putting either less or more memory in the machine in order to avoid the "not optimal configuration" warning.

The "non optimal" configuration (2GB in A1/A2, B1/B2, and 8GB in A4/B4) resulted in the machine claiming the PSUs were putting out insufficient wattage. They didn't do this with the memory in the "unsupported" configuration.

I ended up removing the original 4x 2GB sticks I was trying to use with 2x 8GB sticks, and installed the 8GB sticks alone (in A1/B1).

I guess to get 24GB in this machine I would need to use 6x 4GB sticks.

Hello,

Recently purchased 2xR410 for a LAB which have 6x4GB installed from factory

(6x  9J5WF DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 4G, 1333, 2RX8, 8, 240, REGULATORY, LOW VOLTAGE).

Can someone please advise me on possible memory upgrade options?

Can I put additional 4GB or 8GB modules in the 2 remaining/free slots? I'd like to have more memory but the system should auto boot without being there and pressings keys :)

Thanks
