R510 and R710 disks compatible
I use some producion system with R510 and R710 servers with 6Gbps SAS HDD disks:
- using RAID-0, RAID-1, RAID-5, controller is PERC H700 - firmware version 12.10.1 - 0001 and 12.10.2 - 0004,
- driver version 4.31.01.64,
- storeport driver version 6.1.7601.21686.
Processor for all servers is Inte(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5606@2.13G, firmware is iDRAC6 1.80.0 (Build 17), lifecycle controller is 1.5.1.57.
For R510 servers BIOS version is 1.8.2, for R710 servers BIOS version is 6.0.7.
I'm planning to buy more HDD, but there is no 6Gbps SAS HDDs on the market anymore. I sent to the sellers service tags and they offer me PN 400-alob disks for R510 servers and PN 400-ajoq, PN 400-ajrk, PN 400-ajrr disks for R710 servers but on your site I found these type of disks are not compatible with my servers.
Questions:
1. Which would be the appropriate HDDs according R510 and R710?
2. Can I mix 6Gbps and 12Gbps SAS HDD on R510 and R710 at all?
3. If it is possible to do this without any update/upgrade firmware?
4. Do I need to anything to rebuild my RAIDs? Thank you

Hello
I have limited access to sales tools, but I am unable to locate a 3.5" 2TB or larger SAS/NLSAS drive kit for the R510 or R710. The only ones I show listed are for the cabled R510 configuration, not hot plug.
I did not check all of the part numbers that you listed, but the first one(400-ALOB) is not validated for the R510 or R710. The carrier in the kit will not likely fit properly in the system. The drive may function, I see nothing in the drive specifications that would prevent it from working. 12Gb SAS should be able to function at 6Gb. The controller and drive will find the highest common transfer rate during link speed negotiation. Yes, you can mix different link speeds within a virtual disk on the H700.
Since retail kits no longer seem to be in stock, you will likely need to purchase 5 digit part numbers to get validated drives for these systems. 5 digit part numbers are what we use for warranty stock parts. You will need to purchase carriers from the resell market since we do not sell carriers by themselves.
If you are wanting to expand existing virtual disk sizes then you can reference reconfigure in the controller or OpenManage Server Administrator storage manual. Reconfigure operations on the H700 can only be performed using OMSA or a similar management application.
