R610 Memory upgrade
I have a dual proc r610 with currently 4 x 4GB(16GB total) Dimm's.
I have 6 x 8GB modules I want to put in the server. Whats the best layout I can do?

In that case you would want to populate the larger DIMMs first, so the optimal config would be:
8GB - 1,2
4GB - 4,5
Thanks

Hello cmuench
The best layout would be:
8GB DIMMs in 1,2,3
16GB DIMMs in 4,5
You have to match the lanes, so when I refer to the slots I'm talking about the A and B lane being populated identically. You may be able to populate your 2 spare 8GB DIMMs in slot 6. It will give an error, but it might work. Our 12th generation servers allow flexible memory configurations that are not optimal, and I think we added this ability with BIOS updates on most of our 11th generation servers. You can give it a try. If it is disabled then make sure you are at the latest BIOS revision. If it still does not work then the R610 will not allow unsupported memory configurations.
Thanks

ah sorry it currently has 4 x 4GB dimms.
What would the layout be if I were to reduce the 8GB dimms's by 2 to make a total of
4 x 4GB + 4 x 8GB dimms for the server?
(also running on the latest bios)
