R610 Server: Bios will not update

Hello,

I'm trying to update the BIOS for an R610.  When trying to install R610_BIOS_60HK9_WN64_6.5.0.EXE, a windows error is received when "Collecting Inventory".  Error states: Failed to get the BIOS version.  This server is not connected to the network and Internet (which Lifecycle Controller uses to download updates) because it is using a password management application.  Idracv6 is used to remote into this server as well.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

SpalB,

Normally this is seen when the server is equipped with a customized BIOS, specifically created for the original customer. Now if that is the case then you can get the update to run and update the BIOS to the Dell standard, but you can't go back. If that is the case I also would recommend not going to the latest BIOS though, you will want to walk it up to current.

The process you will use is with the bootable USB, and the non-packaged version of the BIOS update. Boot to the USB, but when you run the filename include /forcetype after it.

For example: R610-060500C.exe /forcetype

That will force the update through, and after that you will be able to use the future BIOS updates from support.dell.com as they are released.

If you private message me the svc tag I can confirm if the bios is custom or not.

Let me know

I think I'm facing this same issue but I'm wondering if there's a way to force the Bios Update with the Linux command.

I'm booting the server with the SLI image from Dell, and applying the Bios update with

sudo ./BIOS......xxx.BIN

Is there a way to force the command in Linux ?

Thanks in advance.
