R610 and R620 RAM Configuration

We have a bunch of R610's and R620's that we want to add some RAM to and hopefully utilise some spares we have.

On the R610's, we tried running 8x8GB + 4x16GB (total 128GB) in the R610's but it's an unsupported config, we assume because it wants to see every channel with equal total ram. This has made us opt for 6x8GB and 6x16GB to give a supported config, which is the least 16GB sticks we can buy to upgrade these to 128 or above, unless I have this wrong? Based on this being correct, we have a dilema with the remaining sticks.

We have 12x8's and 20x4's in spares, so on the R620 we wanted to do 12x8GB and 12x4GB to match the 144 above, but I guess this would again mean unequal capacities per channel, or does this not matter on the R620's. Any help would be appreciated.

Each channel should be populated identically.   Always use the largest DIMM's in the first slots of the channel.    As you have seen, you can run the server with non optimal configurations, but it does require it to be manually bypassed on restart.
