R730 Memory Mapping
Hello,
I have a R730 server, single processor, that I would like to install 96GB of memory into. It came with 32GB of memory (2x16 in A1 and A2) and I would like to add a single 64GB module.
Is this possible, and what slots should they be installed in?
Thanks

Hello
The R730 supports flexible memory configurations. It will allow you to populate the memory in almost any configuration without disabling memory. There is no validated configuration to populate the memory configuration you are proposing, but the best population would be to leave the 2x16 in 1,2 and populate the 64GB DIMM in slot 5.
Thanks

Thank you for your assistance. As it turns out, the 64GB memory ordered was an LRDIMM and the existing memory was RDIMM, so it wouldn't work out anyway. I have the single 64GB installed in A1 and it works fine.

Before scrolling down to see your findings, I was going to reply that the 64GB DIMM would have to be LRDIMM and the 32GB DIMM could be either RDIMM or LRDIMM, and if it is RDIMM you cannot mix it with the LRDIMM.
To get to 96GB now, you'd have to either buy 2 x 32GB RDIMM, 4 x 16GB (only available in RDIMM), or 1 x 64GB (only available in LRDIMM and this would bump you to 128GB obviously).
