R730 - Memory - mixed sizes
Have a few dual CPU R730 ea with 12x 16GB RAM and want to add 12x 32GB per system for a total of 576GB arm per host. Using RDIMMs for this. Can you help with the dimm slot rules here.
I am told: Move current 16G to free slots then add new 32 to slots where 16G where before.
Correct ?

Vallihar,
You can try, but I don't believe that configuration would work. This is due to the fact that the server supports mixing dimms, but you need the channels to match. I don't think you will be able to do so with 12 of each dimm, you would likely need 8 of one dimm and then 16 of the other. So the population would be 8 32gb in the white slots, then 16 16gb dimms in the black and green slots, or you can do 16 32gb dimms in white and black, then 8 16gb dimms in the green.
You can find more details on the memory population details here on page 74-80
