R730 Poweredge Nested Virtualization : neither Intel VT-x or AMD-V found
Good afternoon guys.
I have just taken delivery of a R730 Poweredge.
I have installed VMware ESXi 7.0
Installed a networking app called Eve-NG as a VM, inside I am trying to nest networking appliances.
I am getting the following error: "neither Intel VT-x or AMD-V found"
Also seeing the following errors in Eve-NG when executing qemu commands:
(process:4191): GLib-WARNING **: 09:17:43.632: ../../../glib/gmem.c:493: custom memory allocation vtable not supported
Could not access KVM kernel module: No such file or directory
failed to initialize KVM: No such file or directory
Hardware Details:
Virtualisation is enabled in the BIOS
Does anyone have advice on how to fix my issue?
Kind regards,
Bal

Do I need to replace the CPU's?
I'm not a server expert, any help would be very welcome

Sandhub,
From the looks of the error it appears to be an issue with, or a limitation/requirement of the application, as that isn't anything from the server itself. You may want to reach out to the manufacturer of the app, as I am not familiar with its use on Poweredge.

Thank you for your reply Chris.
This has worked before on a Poweredge T610 populated with 2x Intel Xeon X5650 Six Cores 2.66GHz
From my very limited knowledge, I believe the current pair of CPU's E5-2697v4 are the culprits.
I suspect I may have to source a pair of R630 CPU's which are VT-x capable.
Before I expense something not fit for purpose, I'd welcome any further advice/support
Its hard to believe I'm the only one who has come across this problem !
Along with Eve-NG, it may also affect GNS3 users with an identical/similar pair of CPUs
Kind regards....
