R730xd randomly crashes with FreeNAS

Hi Everyone,

I'm having an issue with my R730xd server.
It keeps crashing randomly under FreeNAS (which is a FreeBSD based OS to make a NAS).

For some unidentified reason, and the system crashes randomly, ending on endless cycles of reboot and/or shutdown.
Some important point here is that FreeNAS does nothing special, because it is not used yet and the OS is just turned on idling.

So I ended up on updating firmwares et reinstalling FreeNAS from scratch.
After about a week leaving the server on doing nothing, it crashed again.

Here is a sample below of the lifecyle log of what happened during last crash

My question is what could cause these errors in the log ?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Hi,

Can you boot to F10 and run the diagnostics? Can you try booting to our live image and see if it still happens, Freenas is not a validated OS. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=CWF92&fileId=3550743303&osCode=W12R2&productCode=poweredge-r730xd&languageCode=en&categoryId=DI

Thanks for your answer.

I ran hardware diagnostics twice and they reported no errors.

Regarding FreeNAS, I take notice that it is not validated. Yet I want to exclude any hardware issue before giving up on FreeNAS.

I'm trying the live image right now and I'll let you know.

Hi,

after a few days idling on the CentOS live image, the server crashed again during the night.
This tends to confirm a hardware issue.
I contacted my local technical support and they will send someone.

Thanks again.

We are having a similar issue.  What CPU is in the R730?

Thanks

easiest way to test hardware issues is to stress test the machine with something like heavyload for windows or will usually make something break alot faster if its a hardware issue
