R740 PERC support
We have a Dell R740, with 16 x 2.5" drive bays, fitted with an H740P PCIe PERC card. We need to replace that card with the H730P (or maybe H730P+) PCIe PERC card in order to achieve RAID pass through. We have no other choice of card.
Anyway, the Dell R740 documentation and ordering process both list the H730P PERC as a choice to fit in the chassis. However, the Dell H730P PCIe card documentation does not list the R740 as being a compatible chassis. Interestingly, both the Dell H730P monolithic card and H730P+ PCIe card documentation do list the R740 as being compatible. I've spent hours searching but haven't yet been able to find the differences between the H730P and H730P+ PERC cards. And I've not been able to explain the apparent contradiction between the first two sentences of this paragraph.
Questions:
1. Will the H730P PCIe PERC work and is it supported in the R740?
2. Will the H730P+ PCIe PERC work and is it supported in the R740?
3. If we buy another R740 and specify the H730P card, is it the H730P or H.730P+ which will be fitted and with what form factor?
Answers to any/all of the above would be really helpful!

Both versions of the H730P are supported in the R740.
You should be able to specify the form factor at point of sale. It will likely default to the mini controller. I show no functional difference between the H730P and the H730P+, so which one you receive may not be specified on the order.
Also, if you need a pass-through controller then make sure that the H730 will function for your needs. A hybrid RAID controller with pass-through capabilities will not be suitable for all pass-through needs. For instance, storage spaces direct(SD2) does not recognize the H730 as a valid HBA even when it is in HBA mode. The HBA330 may be needed.
