R750 GPU power connector

According to this page https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-mk/poweredge-r750/per750_ism_pub/system-board-jumpers-and-connectors?guid=guid-f1535fb9-217b-498a-86eb-cb07394c704e&lang=en-us the R750 has only 12 pin connectors for GPU power, the previous R740 has 8 pin GPU power connectors for each riser. How can we connect our FPGA card (using 6/8 pin GPU power cable from R740) in R750?

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell. I don’t believe it is compatible with the part for 14G.

For the 15G GPU power cable it’s

Part #:DPHJ8   / Part Desc.:ASSY,CBL,PCIE,GPU,15G,2U

Thanks Young E for the quick response, Can you send more info about DPHJ8? (# of connector pin on each side), a simple Google search didn't show any matching result because it is too new?

Tuan Hoang MCV,

The DPHJS cable only shows compatible in the Poweredge R750 and R7525. For the T550 the cable needed would be part # FWCHY (2x4) or HF6YV (2x3),

Let me know if this helps.

If not found on the parts page for the server, as seen here, then you would need to reach out to your regional sales, or check with Spare Parts at 800-357-3355.

That part is only showing for select 14th generation models, not for any 15th generations.

The only supported parts are the ones that I had listed, anything else would be based on trial and error if it functions or not.

One way to test is to 'buzz out' the cable to see if the voltages are what your card (GPU or other) needs. This is particularly important for unknown cables because there are sometimes different wirings for known keyed connectors. Also, some connectors will fit into sockets they are not meant to. For example, a rounded pin will go into a square socket. Another example is the ATX-12v can sometimes be seen with a reverse polarity on the pins. I believe the following is the pinout of the mini 8-pin connector on the Dell, example Dell R740. Please test pins on your own setup, and then validate connectivity (via an ohm meter, with unconnected cable) on your cable

Screen Shot 2022-11-12 at 11.37.31 AM.pngmotherboard socket view

My tests indicate the above pinout on a mini 8-pin socket is wired as follows:

  1. GND
  2. GND
  3. 3.3V (SENSE OUT)
  4. GND
  5. GND (SENSE GND)
  6. 12V
  7. 12V
  8. 12V

All formal Dell mini 8-pin plug connectors on cables I've tested short pins 3 to 5. This is probably an indicator to the machine that the connector is being used.

NOTE, the PIN numbers are just ones I have chosen for this discussion. It's the pin signals that are important. If a Mod can validate the signals that would be great too. In all cases, test on your setup, and know what your cable is plugging into actually needs before you use unknown cables.

Hi Yhzs8,

If you haven't purchased, make sure you get the 12 pin to 8x8 pin connector made for the R750. There are other 6 pin connectors that will come up like this one - https://www.newegg.com/p/1WK-0025-02K65

Be sure to avoid those as well as the GPU connectors for the R740.
