RAC0613: The uploaded file is invalid - iDRAC update issue
hi all - hopefully a nice easy issue I'm hoping someone can help with. Not sure but i think I've ruled all my options out.
i have an R720 running ESXI 6.5. Current iDRAC version is 2.63.60.62. I'm trying to update to 2.65.65.65.
I go to driver download section of dell website, select idrac with lifestyle controller and esxi 6.5 to download, then VIA the iDRAC interface go to update & roll back. select the .BIN file (iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_0GHF4_LN_2.65.65.65_A00.BIN to be exact). click upload and it fails with the above error
i've tried extracting the .BIN to find anything that i could use, but met with a lot of files of which if there was - i wouldn't know which one to select. what am I doing wrong? as far as I'm aware I'm downloading the correct file. I've even tried the .exe file just for the sake of it. I've also tried extracting the .exe to find anything that i can use. but i keep getting the above error no matter what i do.
any help problem solving appreciated!

For updating iDRAC FW using GUI you need to use either Update Package for MS Windows 64-Bit or firmimg image format file. So you can download "iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_0GHF4_WN64_2.65.65.65_A00.EXE" file and try this file on iDRAC GUI. Another option is to download file "iDRAC_2.65.65.65_A00.exe" and extract it (This is a self extracting executable). Once you extract you will get firmimg.d7 file and that file can be used in iDRAC GUI for update

Hello, could you let us know if this helps?
https://dell.to/3ANxkFy
PowerEdge: iDRAC Recovery Procedure with firmimg.d7 or firmimgFIT.d9
Summary: Sometimes the iDRAC boot partition might become corrupt. iDRAC fails to boot, and the server cannot be managed by it.

Hello,
Yes you have it correct. The iDRAC processes the windows .exe file when updating in the DRAC..
It is not dependent on the OS installed.
The .exe file is for updating within the Windows OS.
The .bin file is for updating within RHEL OS and not esxi.

iDRAC update will reboot iDRAC. There is no need to reboot the server to update iDRAC.

What about BIN files that come in RPMs? How can I extract the firming file from that?

You can use --extract option to extract files from Linux DUP files. You can refer below link for more details
https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/dell-update-packages-v17.10.00/dup_17.10_users_guide/linux-cli-options?guid=guid-c066694c-816b-4e90-a53b-3cd80041397c&lang=en-us
If you are looking for firmimg file you can use self extraction exe as well. firmimg file in self extraction file and Linux DUP will be same

After uploading the firmimg.d7 file via the iDRAC firmware update/rollback page, it would appear that the update hosed iDRAC completely. Although the IP address for the dedicated NIC does respond to ping, when attempting to connect to the iDRAC web page, Access Error: 400 -- Bad Request is all that appears.
The previous version of iDRAC was 2.41.40.40 and the one I downloaded from Dell was 2.84.84.84.
How does one recover from a complete failure such as this? (FYI This is on a Dell OEMR XL R630 server.)

@DELL-Shine K Hi - I'm looking for clarification. I have a dell (r740xd) server running vmware esx7.0. I downloaded the .bin file for the iDRAC update and when I go to update iDRAC with that file, I get an "invalid file" message. However, when I change the operating system selection to Windows server 2016, the downloaded .exe file is accepted for the iDRAC upgrade. Is this .exe file the one that I am supposed to be using to upgrade my server which is running Vmware 7.0? I am really puzzled. Please respond. Thank you.

@pabs2112: You've probably figured this out by now but HTTP 400 is from updating to iDRAC8 v2.80 and above. You must disable hostheadercheck.
