thanks for the ideas but i thought there was a way of doing it within OpenManage or the bios maybe?? I have seen it done in the past but i cant remember how
You can try pulling out the whole powersupply so the server considers it to be a single PSU server, or use one of those powercords that has dual outputs (assuming your PDU/UPS can provide enough power for the extra powersupplies).
i actually found the solution after contacting Dell. its not ideal but will do. If you clear the hardware log within OpenManage, where there will be an alert about the missing power connection, this will clear the alert and make the LCD screen change to blue. this will revert back to orange after a reboot but you'll just have to clear the log again
