SC440 Power Issues, Orange Blinking Power Button

Hello All,

I recently purchased a used SC440, that was in working condition for a Non-Profit Christian Group in Uganda. I am currently volunteering with this group and would appreciate any help that might come to mind. Here's what happened: I brought the unit into the office and as I was setting up I forgot to set the PSU for 220v, as I plugged it in the PSU blew (sounded like a gun). I had a visitor bring over a PSU, for a GX280, similar power requirements just different plugs. The original PSU is a H305P-01 and the replacement was H305P-06. After installing the PSU, the computer booted to windows login and then suddenly shut off resulting with a orange blinking power light. After a few attempts (no change in input or output devices), the computer stabilized and proceeded to work for about 6 days. Also, when the unit unexpectedly shuts down, I have to power cycle the PSU in order for the unit to attempt to reboot. If I hold down the power button (5 secs) to turn it off and proceed to power it back on it just blinks orange and never gets to diagnostic lights. Afterward the same problem began to occur.I downloaded Dell Online Diag and all tests passed without issues.

Here are some known issues about our office. Working here in Uganda, Africa we tend to have low to high voltage that is not as stable or consistent as we like.

Any ideas? Could something else other than the PSU be damaged from the 110/220v mistake? Or should I consider getting a voltage stabilizer? How might I trouble shoot the new PSU, and or maybe the mainboard? (All Diagnostic lights are green and no issues at boot)

Todd,

After some head scratching and troubleshooting I found the problem. We purchased a special power stripe that is a surge suppressor that has a boot up time when the power fails or is low. This resulted in a orange blinking power light. when combined together with our backup inverter system, the backup kicks on and causes a delay in the power switching. Which really had me confused since we paid so much to maintain a system for the office. Otherwise everything is up and running without a problem. Thanks again for the help and hopefully this particular problem might help someone else.

Guys, i'm going through the same here...in Uganda. Poweredge sc440 Amber Light still...showing. Can't boot ( my tech knowledge tells me maybe i should wait for atleast half an hour....and try to power it on a gain; Orange/ Amber light signifies power fluctuations ..and i guess DELL designed it in any that incase of any insufficient voltages..the system won't start. BUT this is not the first time it's happening...

Okay..i'm trying to think....of the appropriate step.

Need your posts, thanks
