SNMP readings from VRTX differs from values in gui
Hi
I am reading a temperature value from a VRTX via SNMP, and that value is different from the one i see in the gui (CMC).
1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.2.3.1.10.0 = "29" [ASN_INTEGER] (drsChassisFrontPanelAmbientTemperature.0, "0003.0001.0010 This attribute defines the ambient temperature reading (in degrees Celsius) for the chassis front panel controller.")
But in CMC it shows: Chassis Ambient PowerEdge VRTX 26°C (79°F)
Tested on three different chassis and the difference was 3 degrees on two of them, and 2 degrees on one.
Anyone know how this works? I didn't find "26" anywhere when i "Walked" all OID's.
Best regards

That seems like a reasonable line of logic, to me, though I can't confirm it.
SNMP isn't something I ever interacted with in support - we didn't support it. We have some devs that post from time to time, so we may hear from them on this, for any further detail. I'll see if I can turn up any detail on this, I just don't want to set any specific expectation.
As to the VRTX CMC and Redfish, I can submit a feature request for it. It seems like something that might not be terribly difficult to implement, considering all the commonality between the iDRAC and CMC.

I can't speak to what might be causing the discrepancy, but I'd be inclined to flash the CMC and chassis firmware both as troubleshooting. What revisions of those are you running?

Hi
I have tested this on both 3.20 and 3.21.
"racadm getsensorinfo" gives me the same value as seen in the gui.
In CMC (gui and cli) i can see the values for "Chassis Ambient" (22 degrees), and for each blade (21 degrees).
But via SNMP i can get these values:
drsChassisFrontPanelAmbientTemperature.0 (chassis front panel controller) 25
drsCMCAmbientTemperature.0 (chassis management card) 43
drsCMCProcessorTemperature.0 (chassis management card processor) 36
Makes me think it looks at different sensors...
It would also be nice if CMC supported RedFish as IDRAC does.
Best regards

Hello secureui,
I'd recommend to make sure you are at the latest CMC firmware and check reporting.
Dell Chassis Management Controller Version 3.30 : https://dell.to/3kuActz
Please let me know how it goes.

Hello,
We have the same issue with our VRTX chassis' any way to get the correct OID for the value shown in the GUI
its located under
Temperature Sensors > Temperature Sensor Status > chassis ambient
@Dell-DylanJ
thanks!
