Seagate Disk firmware update R420

have been battling with this for the last week or so now and do not seem to be making any progress.

my usual approach on 12G and upwards servers is to connect to an FTP site (dell or latterly internal) this works well however i need to update the firmware images on the seagate disk, and this doesnt seem possible through the lifecycle controller, have even tried using CD or USB option and the DUP is present and is in the catalog xml the lifecycle controller update utility just never sees them. i assume this probably means that these components are not updatable via the lifecycle controller. this leads me onto the next issue, in this instance i would usually create a bootable linux iso using DRM however since the latest plugin 830 update my DRM received this week no image i now create in DRM is bootable by the host, its complaining about not being able to mount the CD even though its loaded the 2 SA packs from it.

so in short 2 questions

1, how to update disk firmware on a 12G system running ESXi 5.5

2, whats gone wrong with the latest plugin that is causing me to not be able to create bootable linux ISO's?

Hi,

If you use the hard drive update utility it can create a bootable ISO just for the hard drive updates. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=M9RWR&fileId=3464503367&osCode=XI55&productCode=poweredge-r420&languageCode=en&categoryId=AS

Is it not creating the bootable ISO in DRM or it creates it and it doesn’t work properly? Are you creating a disk or usb?

Hi Josh,

its creating the ISO in DRM fine, it completes and then hen i attach it to the console via virtual media, and boot from it it works also, its just after it has loaded and starts running the scripts it fails and asks to reboot, interestingly it only happened since i last got asked to update the plugin's any ISO created before that still works fine. i will try out the HDD Update utility and see how i get on
