T310 Diagnostic Lights

I have a PE T310 which will not start.

On applying power to the two PSUs the green lights show on both PSUs

PSU fans and system fan all spin up

Front panel diagnostic lights show 1-2-3-4 all lit, HDD indicator lit and diagnostic light glowing orange

After 30 seconds or so the system fan spins down and stops

System remains showing basically all lights lit on diagnostic panel i.e 1-2-3-4 HDD and Orange

I cannot find 1-2-3-4 in the Hardware Owners Manual

Any information would be most appreciated

Paul

Paulrking,

I am not seeing anything listed for the T310 for 4 lights on. Yet normally that was an indication of the hardware passing off to the OS. What I would like to try is taking the server to a minimum to post configuration. That is removing everything from the server but the following:

  • CPU
  • System board
  • Heatsink for CPU for prevention of over-heating
  • PSU (and for redundant PSU also the PDB)
  • Front panel (to power system on)
  • One memory DIMM

Power down and take it to this configuration and then start it up. If the server completes post then replace the removed parts one by one till the problem part is located.

Let me know what the results are.

Paul,

I am having the extract same issue with my PE T310. Were you able to find out which was the issue?

I have tried to boot with the minimum setup as Chris suggested, still have the same issue. The fan spins for a few seconds and stops, and all 4 lights stay on.

Hi, thanks for choosing Dell.

Have you tried https://dell.to/3mhCiRP and also remove the CMOS battery?

Thank you for the reply,

Yes, I have tried reset and drain power by pressing the power button, but it is not turning off at all. The only way I can turn it off is by unplugging the power cable.

I have tried removing CMOS Battery as well.  Did not work.

When I plug the power cable back in, the fan spins for a few seconds and stops, and all 4 lights stay on.

Thanks,

Neil

Hello,

With the system continuing this behavior at a minimum to POST configuration, I would recommend substituting components with known good. Do you have anything available?

Hello,

I have tried different RAM, PSU, and CPU, still stays the same. I do not have a motherboard available at the moment.

Hi,

It will most probably a main board issue. Try turning on the server without memory installed. Have you check if the CPU socket on the main board has no bent pins?

But just to confirm, you mentioned you tried drain power but it's not turning off at all. To power drain server is to remove the power cables, press and hold the power button for 15secs. Then install the power cable and try turning on the server.

Hello NeilYu,

It seems you have narrowed it down but I want to give you the min-to-post config again so you can confirm your test was done in the correct configuration.

Minimum to POST Components.

  • CPU
  • System board
  • Heatsink for CPU for prevention of over-heating
  • PSU (and for redundant PSU also leave in the PDB (power distribution board))
  • Front panel (to power system on)
  • One memory DIMM

Remove anything not on that list: DVD, Hard drives, PERC controller, backplane, network card, NIC cable, any pcie cards, keyboard, mouse, USB devices, monitor….  anything not on the list remove.

If it does not post then the issue is with one of those components.

If you get successful POST, put things back a little at a time until you find the faulting component.

I see you were able to swap in other RAM, PSU and CPU, so it appears to be narrowed to one of these components:

System board, PDB or Front control panel.

HI,

Yes, I tried to turn it on without memory installed, the issue remains.

I do not see any bent pins on the CPU socket.

I have tried pressing and holding after unplugging the power cord for 15 secs, the issue remains.

As soon as I plug the power cord back on, the fan starts spinning and stops a few seconds later. All 4 lights stay on all time.

Thanks,
