T410: System services update required

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I decided to update all the firmware on my dell Poweredge T410 server with a dell repository manager bootable dvd created for this system.

As far as I can tell all firmware has been updated but on startup I now get the following message in the upper right corner: "System services update required".

I don't know how to fix this and I am not able to find out how to resolve this problem.

The operating system I'm using is the dell customised vmware ESXI 5.5 U2.

Thank you very much in advance,

Olivier Smet

Sorry if my English is a little poor, but I'm from the Netherlands and just 15 years old.

Dear Josh,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I don't have iDRAC on my server, I only have the EMBEDDED BMC on it.

I tried to use the dell openmanage 8.1 plugin for esxi 5.5 but there is no firmware upgrade function in the interface via dell openmange server administrator managed node 8.1.

How should I apply the firmware?

Thanks in advance,

Olivier

Dear Josh,

I just tried installing the binaries you suggested.

The BMC firmware showed it was already updated but I reapplied the update to be sure it was installed correctly. It told me the update was successful.

Than I tried installing the lifecycle controller binary. This did not work: the setup tells me that the update package is not compatible with my system configuration.

What should I do?

Thanks in advance,

Olivier

Try going into ctrl+e during post and turn off system services and reboot and then turn it back on.

Dear Josh,

I don't have the collect system inventory on restart setting.

Firmware versions:

BMC: 1.92.01

Unified Server: 1.5.5.18

Primary Backplane: 1.07

Thanks,

Olivier

Dear Josh,

I've just tried turning off and turning on the system services and still got the update required message.

Then I tried again to install the lifecycle binary which still told me it was not compatible with my system.

After that I restored the defaults via the bmc menu and tried again to install the lifecycle binary.

The setup still told me it was not compatible with my system.

Would it maybe help you if you had the service tag of the machine?

Thanks,

Olivier

I shouldn’t need the service tag. Try the following

Go into ctrl+e Select System Services from the main menu.

Change the Collect System Inventory on Restart setting to Enabled.

Hi Josh,

I've just installed that firmware version and it updated successfully.

After rebooting the system services were available again and didn't tell me to upgrade them.

The system was however not able to load the system services image.

Should I try to reupgrade the firmware to the newest version?

Thanks,

Olivier

You can try that and see if it will reinstall it.

Hi Josh,

I've just tried to install the most recent firmware version and it still tells me that it is not compatible with my system.

Could you maybe tell me what the system services are responsible exactly except for diagnostics?

Are there disadvantages to running a server without working system services aside from not being able to use the onboard diagnostics?

Thanks,

Olivier
