Dell has dispatched a replacement motherboard

What?! More troubleshooting must have been done than you listed here for them to replace the motherboard. That sounds premature otherwise.

I suspect power could be an issue, but Dell doesn't have any information that I could find to confirm or deny.

According to the spec sheet, there isn't anything about the specs of the CPU itself to cause a red flag about using it in there, but the configuration page for this model does NOT have the option for the 2687 ... the top CPU is the 2660, so whether you can/can't, it is likely that Dell is making no guarantee for that CPU.

XByte has a 2687 listed for the T430, leading me to believe it is possible, even without Dell's support that it will work under some circumstance.

Did you update the iDRAC/LCC and the BIOS? Hardware basics: you should never upgrade hardware without first updating the BIOS (and the iDRAC/LCC, in the case of Dell servers). iDRAC/LCC/BIOS should be at the latest version to attempt this upgrade.

If updating the BIOS doesn't work, then I suspect it is the power supply, and it's possible that Dell couldn't tell you definitively that it can or can't support that 160W CPU because they don't support it and have no test data or information about it. It is also possible that XByte offers it for single-CPU configs ... you might consider calling them to see if they have any information from their testing the hardware if Dell can't tell you.

Yessir flash! Got 2.7.1 BIOS and updated idrac on this puppy. I used the update ISO burned onto a disc from Dell's website and it auto-updated firmware and other things before attempting this upgrade.

When we were on the phone w/ the dell tech, he also had us boot with one cpu and export the idrac summary log file to him. He and another tech looked over it and couldn't see any red flags.

We did not discuss power supplies while on the phone w/ him.

At boot time, does the server draw power from both power supplies? Or primarily use one and reserve the other?
