T430 hanging at Initializing Intel QuickPath Interconnect

I have been given 2 T430 servers, plus some additional parts from a 3rd. I wanted to take the 2 units and put all the resources into just 1 unit.

I took the useable parts and pieces and combined them all into one case, and when I add the 2nd processor, when I start the unit, the system hangs at "Initializing Intel QuickPath Interconnect". It gets about 5-10% of the bar full and just hangs. I even left it alone overnight, and still no progress.

Here is my setup. T430 with BIOS firmware 2.14.00. (2) Intel Xeon E5-2603 v4 processors. When running 1 processor, I have (2) 16G PC4-2400 and (2) 8G PC4-2400 stick of RAM in A1-A4. When I install the 2nd processor, I place a 16G in A1 and B1, and an 8G in A2 and B2.

Is it critical I get the 2nd processor working? Eh, not really, but it'd be nice.

Hi @hg64dar,

Could you tell us more about your server's information and hardware that you tried to install, example like the author of this post. Also, could you provide us a picture or the full details of the memory information, what CPU model are you trying to install.

Hello I have exactly the same problem.

I have a Dell PowerEdge T430 that initially had 1 CPU Intel Xeon E2620 v3 and 32 Gb of RAM (4*8Gb).

I first replace the CPU with Intel Xeon E2699 v3 that works well in standalone mode.

When I put the old Intel Xeon E2620 in the second slot, I have the error when rebooting the server.

I replace it with a new CPU Intel Xeon E2696 v3 and another 32 Gb (2*16Gb) on the B memory bank (memory that I checked first by putting it on the A bank) and had exactly the same error.

What is wrong with my configuration?

Thanks in advance for tour help!

CedricBeauFort,

It sounds like you are trying to use mismatching CPUs in the server, which wouldn't be supported. On top of that, neither the E2699 v3 or the E2696 v3 are listed as compatible with the server.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello Chris H,

thanks for your answer!

I was wondering if the server supported 2 different type of CPU, but unfortunatly I did not find in the official documentation that information.

Where can I find this information and the list of CPU supported by this model?

N.B. : I arrived to the same conclusions as you when I tried yesterday a setup with 2  Intel Xeon E2620, configuration that works fine.

N.B.2 ! As I said, the E2699 v3 works fine when in standalone mode... I will try the E2696 v3 in the same configuration...

Hi,

I confirmed that the E2696 v3 is working fine in standalone mode.

Do you think there could be an issue if I try to use it un dual CPU mode?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,

you can try in dual but both CPU must be the same.

Thanks

Hello, thanks for the link to the manual!

But I ony see page :

Processor specifications
"The PowerEdge T430 system supports up to two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v4 or Xeon E5-2600 v3 product family processors."

It is not explicitly said that it should be exactly the same processor, that why I thought it was possible.

Thanks for your help, I will order another E2696 v3! ;-)

Hello,

I received my second E2696 v3 and install it on the second slot of my motherboard, unfortunatly the server does not start and I get a CPU 2 Internal error on the LDE Front panel.

I tested both processor alone in the first slot and both works very well.

I also tested a dual CPU configuration with my E2620 v3 that works fine...

Where am I wrong with my setup?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hello, I don't see E5-269xv3.

E5-269xv3 is not listed for this occasion

,only V4.

You could also send us your service tag to check. https://www.dell.com/community/en/direct-messaging
