Update bios poweredge 1950 linux debian

hi all,

I have a dell poweredge 1950 server run with debian 10 on it. I would like to update my bios, but unfortunately I can't. I've tired some technique, like bott on FreeDos USB with bios exe update on it, but when I've tried to run exe file I got this message : this program cannot run in DOS mode.

How can I update my bios on my powerdege 1950 server with linux ?

I don't have DRAC card on my server, I have openmange server install on it but I can't find solution to update my bios with it. (I've only a bios item with BIOS information that's all)

Hello,

Have you tried running the .BIN file inside the OS? With the older models, I'm not sure if it would work or not, but would be worth a try. You might also consider using the System Services menu during boot and checking within the menu that loads for a Platform Update option. This option is present on our current servers, and I suspect a Platform Update option would be present on this as well, but I can't confirm that because I don't have a 9th generation server to pull. Failing that, you can also use Repository Manager to create a bootable image to deploy either just the BIOS update, or all the firmware updates for the 1950.

Hi thanks for your answer,

Yes I've tired to run the BIN file in my terminal after a chmod +x and then run ./bios.BIN but didn't work.

Could I install Repository Manager on debian server without graphical interface ? Because  when I try to install Repository Manager on my personal computer I see Gtk library is using...

I haven't tried installing Repository Manager on a headless system. I've only used it on Windows and Linux systems with a desktop. I looked at the manual and it can be used through command line though. You'll need to jump to page 20 to get to the command resources.
