Updating all firmware (idrac, BIOS, etc) on PowerEdge R830

Hey folks, I am new to doing firmware upgrades, and I have to do it on a Dell PowerEdge R830 in production.

I'm getting conflicting reports on the best way to go about this.

Most recently I was looking at the Life Cycle Controller way (hitting F10 on boot).

However, I am not sure how to set up the network settings for this.

It asks for a NIC to use and then IP address settings (mask, gateway etc)

So which NIC should I select for this, and does that mean I have to plug another NIC into a switch?

How do I select the IP address?  Use something in the same subnet as the host IP or the idrac IP?

I know these questions probably seem basic to many of you, but I appreciate any help.  I don't want to blow up production.  Also, this host is in DMZ, so I will have to provide an IP to the network team to allow connections out to downloads.dell.com on https or whatever method is best (not FTP, not allowed).

Thanks!

Hello,

If using https://dell.to/2Pv1QJl isn't going to be an option, I can't really recommend using the Lifecycle Controller. The primary benefit of using that method is to be able to stream the updates from the ftp catalog.

If it's just the 1 R830, It would probably be best to grab the files and run them in the OS. There is also the option to grab the individual .exe files and run upload them through the iDRAC web interface, which would bypass the OS.

If you like, you can send me a SupportAssis file and I can collect the firmware files that would be applicable and send them over.
