Upgrade PE 2950 II to a gen III motherboard?

HI,

It looks like the motherboard (CU542) died. Wondering if it's possible to swap it out for a Gen III board. Specifically DP246, M332H or  H268G. I know the processors will swap, they're the same socket/chipset, at least far as far as I can tell. But are there any catches?

Thanks!

Hello.

You might have to replace some components including processors if they are not compatible with Gen III, raiser cards, possibly expansion cards as well and others. Gen III supports only 1066/1333 MHz memory and if your current memory is not this frequency then you have to replace it too.

Generally, the technical difference between these generation of server seems not far a part and may not be worth the expense incurred in replacing internal components just to accommodate Gen III system board
